Two LNG Power Plants set for Privatization

According to the news sources, Pakistan entered the EFF, a 39-month funding program with the IMF in July 2019, but the release of tranches has faced delays due to issues over the required reforms.

According to sources, the government sent the privatization plan of LNG power plants – Haveli Bahadur Shah and Balloki – to the IMF, stating that the two high-performance plants would be sold off in June.

The sources said that the IMF has demanded immediate privatization of the LNG power plants by the end of June 2022.

At the request of the IMF, the Privatisation Commission started work on the privatization of the LNG power plants.

Haveli Bahadur Shah and Balloki are power plants generating electricity at full capacity. Both the power plants were installed during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz era.

With regard to selling them, the IMF has suggested that privatization of high-performance power plants would fetch a good price. The sources said that both the dual-fuel power plants are capable of generating electricity from LNG as well as diesel. They said that the privatization of power plants is likely to increase the cost of power generation.

خبر رساں ذرائع کے مطابق پاکستان نے جولائی 2019 میں آئی ایم ایف کے ساتھ 39 ماہ کے فنڈنگ پروگرام ای ایف ایف میں داخلہ لیا تھا لیکن مطلوبہ اصلاحات کے مسائل کی وجہ سے قسطوں کے اجراء میں تاخیر ہوئی ہے۔
ذرائع کے مطابق حکومت نے ایل این جی پاور پلانٹس حویلی بہادر شاہ اور بلوکی کی نجکاری کا منصوبہ آئی ایم ایف کو بھجوا دیا، جس میں کہا گیا کہ دو ہائی پرفارمنس پلانٹس جون میں فروخت کر دیے جائیں گے۔
ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ آئی ایم ایف نے جون 2022 کے آخر تک ایل این جی پاور پلانٹس کی فوری نجکاری کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔
آئی ایم ایف کی درخواست پر نجکاری کمیشن نے ایل این جی پاور پلانٹس کی نجکاری پر کام شروع کردیا۔
حویلی بہادر شاہ اور بلوکی پاور پلانٹس ہیں جو پوری صلاحیت سے بجلی پیدا کر رہے ہیں۔ دونوں پاور پلانٹس پاکستان مسلم لیگ نواز کے دور میں لگائے گئے تھے۔
ان کی فروخت کے حوالے سے آئی ایم ایف نے تجویز دی ہے کہ اعلیٰ کارکردگی والے پاور پلانٹس کی نجکاری سے اچھی قیمت حاصل ہو گی۔ پاور پلانٹس کی نجکاری سے بجلی کی پیداواری لاگت بڑھنے کا خدشہ ہے۔
