Punjab Forest Department to initiate plantation campaign

This was revealed by the President of Punjab Forest Guards and Foresters Association Hafiz Sajjad in a meeting held on Monday. The Vice President of the association Mian Imran, Distt. Range Officer Chakwal Sher Afzal Raja and other office bearers and officers were present on the occasion.

“Growing forests on barren and uncultivated privately owned lands under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Movement is our prime concern”, DRO Sher Afzal Raja said adding that thousands of kanals of such private land in Chakwal District have so far been turned into a dense forest.

Hafiz Sajjad said that all field staff including forest officers and forest guards of the Division have set targets to approach landowners for the purpose. He said apart from this we shall distribute millions of saplings among the farming community and those who can plant and take care of them after planting. He appealed to the farmers and cultivators to resettle their barren lands through afforestation and announced that the forest department would provide them saplings at the rate of Rs2 per seedling. “Farmers would plant these saplings in their barren lands and forest department shall help them properly grow these saplings”, he added saying that millions of these plants will be given to farmers in all districts and tehsils of the division.

Mian Imran said that field workers are not only struggling to save the existing forests from the hands of the timber mafia but they are doing their best to plant and grow a maximum number of saplings leaving no space empty. “Along with these practical and immediate steps, we are also raising public awareness to highlight the need and importance of trees for which a massive publicity campaign has also been launched,” he added.

حافظ سجاد نے بتایا کہ ڈویژن کے فاریسٹ آفیسرز اور فاریسٹ گارڈز سمیت تمام فیلڈ اسٹاف نے اس مقصد کے لئے زمینداروں سے رجوع کرنے کے اہداف طے کیے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس کے علاوہ ہم کاشتکاری جماعت اور ان لوگوں میں لاکھوں پودے تقسیم کریں گے جو پودے لگانے کے بعد پودے لگ سکتے ہیں اور ان کی دیکھ بھال کرسکتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کاشتکاروں اور کاشتکاروں سے اپیل کی کہ وہ اپنی بنجر زمینوں کو بستی کے ذریعے دوبارہ آباد کریں اور اعلان کیا کہ محکمہ جنگلات انہیں ہرجانے کے لئے 2 روپئے کے حساب سے پودے فراہم کریں گے۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ان پودوں کو لاکھوں پودے ڈویژن کے تمام اضلاع اور تحصیلوں میں دیئے جائیں گے۔
میاں عمران نے کہا کہ فیلڈ ورکر نہ صرف لکڑی مافیا کے ہاتھوں سے موجودہ جنگلات کو بچانے کے لئے جدوجہد کر رہے ہیں بلکہ وہ زیادہ سے زیادہ پودے لگانے اور اگانے کے لئے پوری کوشش کر رہے ہیں جس میں کوئی جگہ خالی نہیں ہے۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا ، "ان عملی اور فوری اقدامات کے ساتھ ساتھ ، ہم درختوں کی ضرورت اور اہمیت کو اجاگر کرنے کے لئے بھی عوامی شعور اجاگر کررہے ہیں جس کے لئے بڑے پیمانے پر تشہیر مہم بھی شروع کی گئی ہے۔"
