Pakistan do not have safe drinking water for citizens: NA told

The data presented by federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz on the floor of the house in response to a question asked by Mussarat Rafiq Mahesar of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) shows that out of the 29 cities where underground water was tested by the Pakistan Council of Research of Water Resou­rces (PCRWR), there are 20 cities where more than 50 percent water obtained from various sources was found to be unsafe.

The data surprisingly shows that the underground water obtained from nine sources each in Sialkot and Gujrat is 100pc safe for drinking purposes.

The other cities having more than 50pc of its underground water contaminated, according to the PSCRWR, are Multan 94%; Karachi 93%; Badin 92%; Sargodha 83%; Hyderabad 80%; Bahawalpur 76%; Muzaffarabad 70%; Sukkur 67%; Faisalabad 59%; Peshawar 58%; Tando Allah Yar 57%; Sheikhupura, Abbottabad, and Khuzdar 55%; Loralai 54%; Quetta 53% and Gujranwala 50%.

The underground water was found to be contaminated with arsenic, iron, fluoride, and bacteria. The minister said the water quality monitoring for the year 2020-21 of other 29 cities of the country had revealed the prevalence of bacteriological contamination 39%, followed by arsenic 8% nitrate 4% and fluoride 4%. Overall, he said, 38% of the monitored water sources were found safe for drinking in 29 main cities.

وفاقی وزیر برائے سائنس و ٹیکنالوجی شبلی فراز نے پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی کے مسرت رفیق مہیسر کے پوچھے گئے سوال کے جواب میں گھر کے فرش پر پیش کردہ اعداد و شمار سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ 29 شہروں میں سے جہاں زیر زمین پانی کا تجربہ کیا گیا۔ پاکستان کونسل آف ریسرچ آف واٹر ریسورس (پی سی آر ڈبلیو آر) کے مطابق 20 شہر ایسے ہیں جہاں مختلف ذرائع سے 50 فیصد سے زائد پانی غیر محفوظ پایا گیا۔
اعداد و شمار حیران کن طور پر ظاہر کرتے ہیں کہ سیالکوٹ اور گجرات میں نو زرائع سے حاصل کیا گیا زیر زمین پانی پینے کے مقصد کے لیے 100 فیصد محفوظ ہے۔
پی ایس سی آر ڈبلیو آر کے مطابق دوسرے شہروں کا زیر زمین پانی 50 فیصد سے زیادہ آلودہ ہے ، ملتان 94 فیصد ہے۔ کراچی 93٪ بدین 92٪ سرگودھا 83٪ حیدرآباد 80٪ بہاولپور 76٪ مظفرآباد 70٪ سکھر 67٪ فیصل آباد 59٪ پشاور 58٪ ٹنڈو اللہ یار 57٪؛ شیخوپورہ ، ایبٹ آباد اور خضدار 55٪ لورالائی 54؛ کوئٹہ 53٪ اور گوجرانوالہ 50٪

زیر زمین پانی آرسینک ، آئرن ، فلورائیڈ اور بیکٹیریا سے آلودہ پایا گیا۔ وزیر نے کہا کہ ملک کے دیگر 29 شہروں میں سال 2020-21 کے لیے پانی کے معیار کی نگرانی میں بیکٹیریا کے آلودگی کا پھیلاؤ 39 فیصد ، اس کے بعد آرسینک 8 فیصد نائٹریٹ 4 فیصد اور فلورائیڈ 4 فیصد ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مجموعی طور پر ، نگرانی کے پانی کے 38 فیصد ذرائع 29 بڑے شہروں میں پینے کے لیے محفوظ پائے گئے۔
