Karachi: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday has decided to close Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and Sukkur’s airport for all domestic flights from today i.e. March 24 till April 4 as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
According to the notification issued by CAA, the airports will “remain closed for all types of Domestic Incoming/Outgoing Passenger Flight Operations with effect from Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 0100 UTC/ 0600 PST till April 04, 2020.”
The decision came amid the lockdown imposed in the province to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus that has affected over 800 people in the country and claimed six precious lives.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has also canceled all flight operations from Karachi and Sukkur whereas other airlines have also been informed about the decision.
On March 21, the federal government decided to suspended international flights coming into Pakistan till April 4. The decision has left many Pakistani travelers stranded at airports across the globe. However, the government is trying to facilitate them at the earliest.
