Construction of Underpass at Barkat Market to overcome traffic issues

Another signal-free corridor project to uplift the traffic situation in Lahore. A project of constructing an underpass and flyover at Barkat Market is approved and it worth Rs1.95 Billion.

The Punjab government has taken emergency measures to control the growing traffic congestion in the city. After Shahdara, Circular Road, it has been decided to build a flyover and underpass at Y Junction Garden Town. To create a signal-free corridor, the LDA's engineering department prepared a feasibility report for the projects.

According to the design, flyover and underpass will be constructed at Campus Bridge and Wi-junction Barkat Market. A three-lane flyover will be constructed for the traffic coming from Kalma Chowk while a two-lane underpass will be constructed for the traffic coming from Campus Bridge to Kalma Chowk. The flyover will be 550 meters long which will be in a U-shape.

Similarly, the length of the underpass will be up to 450 meters. 18 kanals of land will be acquired for the construction of flyover and underpass. A protected uterus will be built on the campus bridge to provide a signal-free route to traffic. In this way, the Bhikke Wall Moor Signal Free Corridor from Barkat Market will be connected to the Jail Road Signal Free Corridor. An estimated Rs 1.95 billion has been earmarked for the construction of flyovers and underpasses.

For implementation,  LDA has included the plan in its annual development program for the next financial year.

شہر میں بڑھتے ٹریفک دباؤ پر قابو پانے کے لئے پنجاب حکومت نے ہنگامی بنیادوں پر اقدامات شروع کر دئیے۔ شاہدرہ، سرکلر روڈ کے بعد وائی جنکشن گارڈن ٹاؤن پر بھی فلائی اوور اور انڈر پاس بنانے کا فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے۔ سگنل فری کوریڈور بنانے کے لیے ایل ڈی اے کے شعبہ انجینئرنگ نے منصوبوں کی فزیبیلیٹی رپورٹ تیار کر لی۔

ڈیزائن کے مطابق فلائی اوور و انڈر پاس کیمپس پل اور وائی جنکشن برکت مارکیٹ پر بنایا جائے گا۔ کلمہ چوک سے آنے والی ٹریفک کے لئے تین لین فلائی اوور بنایا جائے گا جبکہ کیمپس پل سے کلمہ چوک جانے والی ٹریفک کے لئے دو لین انڈر پاس تعمیر ہو گا۔ فلائی اوور 550 میٹر طویل تعمیر کیا جائے گا جو یو شیپ میں ہو گا۔ اسی طرح انڈر پاس کی لمبائی 450 میٹر تک ہو گی۔ فلائی اوور اور انڈر پاس کی تعمیر کے لیے 18 کنال اراضی ایکوائر کی جائے گی۔ کیمپس پل پر ٹریفک کو سگنل فری راستہ فراہم کرنے کے لیے پروٹیکٹڈ یوٹرن بنایا جائے گا۔ اس طرح برکت مارکیٹ سے بھیکے وال موڑ سگنل فری کوریڈور کو جیل روڈ سگنل فری کوریڈور سے منسلک کر دیا جائے گا۔ فلائی اوور اور انڈر پاس کی تعمیر کے لیے ایک ارب 95 کروڑ روپے کا تخمینہ لگایا ہے۔

منصوبے پر عملدرآمد کے لئے ایل ڈی اے نے منصوبہ آئندہ مالی سال کے سالانہ ترقیاتی پروگرام میں شامل کر لیا۔
