CDA marked tree plantation and rainwater harvesting mandatory for residents

The decision was taken during a meeting, chaired by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed, in order to increase greenery in the capital. Management of all public sector buildings, on the other hand, have been asked to ensure that there is a rainwater harvesting system installed on their premises.

Capital Development Authority officials stated as per existing bylaws only owners of 500 square yard plots and above are bound to plant four trees. However, the bylaws will be amended in the next few days and it will be mandatory for all to plant trees.

They said owners of five marla houses will be required to plant one tree, 10 marlas two trees, owners of plots measuring 500 square yards and above will have to plant four trees. Moreover, owners of 100 sq yard houses will have to plant six trees.

CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed said: “This exercise [tree plantation] is meant for improving the tree cover and cooling down temperature in Islamabad.”

All government buildings, including schools, will also plant tree while CDA will provide them saplings. “Provision of free saplings to schools will build a sense of responsibility among students and also add to the tree cover. This year, we will carry out a massive tree plantation drive across the city,” he said.

کیپیٹل ڈویلپمنٹ اتھارٹی کے عہدیداروں نے بتایا کہ موجودہ ضمنی قوانین کے مطابق صرف 500 مربع گز کے پلاٹوں کے مالکان چار درخت لگانے کے پابند ہیں۔ تاہم ، آئندہ چند روز میں ضمنی قوانین میں ترمیم کی جائے گی اور درخت لگانا سب کے لئے لازمی ہوگا۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ پانچ مرلہ مکانات کے مالکان کو ایک درخت لگانے کی ضرورت ہوگی ، 10 مرلہ دو درخت ، 500 مربع گز اور اس سے اوپر کے پلاٹوں کے مالکان کو چار درخت لگانے ہوں گے۔ مزید یہ کہ 100 مربع گز مکانوں کے مالکان کو چھ درخت لگانے ہوں گے۔

سی ڈی اے کے چیئرمین عامر علی احمد نے کہا: "یہ مشق [درخت لگانے] اسلام آباد میں درختوں کے احاطہ کو بہتر بنانے اور درجہ حرارت کو ٹھنڈا کرنے کے لئے ہے۔"
اسکولوں سمیت تمام سرکاری عمارتیں بھی درخت لگائیں گی جبکہ سی ڈی اے انہیں پودے فراہم کرے گی۔ "اسکولوں کو مفت پودوں کی فراہمی طلباء میں ذمہ داری کا احساس پیدا کرے گی اور درختوں کے احاطہ میں بھی اضافہ کرے گی۔ اس سال ، ہم پورے شہر میں درختوں کے بڑے پیمانے پر شجرکاری مہم چلائیں گے۔
