CDA in a fix over old graveyard aligning with under-construction Margalla Road

According to the news sources, Currently, a portion of Margalla Road is being constructed from Grand Trunk (GT) Road (Sangjani area) to D-12.

Sources said the alignment of the road clashes with the graveyard in Shah Allah Ditta though work on the project was progressing fast.

They said that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was focusing on two options: either construct a flyover or a tunnel to save the graveyard. However, a third option of acquiring 16 kanals of an adjacent road to divert the alignment was also under discussion.

Though a final decision is yet to be made, we want to avoid land acquisition; therefore, we are focusing on the flyover or tunnel option. If both options are not feasible, we will go for the land acquisition to divert the alignment of the road and bypass the graveyard,” said an officer of the CDA, adding a final decision will be made this week.

According to the details, CDA spokesperson Syed Asif Raza said options were under consideration and soon the authority will announce a final decision.

ان کا کہنا تھا کہ کیپٹل ڈیولپمنٹ اتھارٹی (سی ڈی اے) دو آپشنز پر توجہ مرکوز کر رہی ہے: یا تو فلائی اوور بنائیں یا قبرستان کو بچانے کے لیے سرنگ۔ تاہم، الائنمنٹ کو موڑنے کے لیے ملحقہ سڑک کے 16 کنال کے حصول کا تیسرا آپشن بھی زیر بحث تھا۔
اگرچہ حتمی فیصلہ ہونا باقی ہے، ہم زمین کے حصول سے بچنا چاہتے ہیں۔ لہذا، ہم فلائی اوور یا ٹنل کے آپشن پر توجہ مرکوز کر رہے ہیں۔ اگر دونوں آپشنز قابل عمل نہیں ہیں، تو ہم سڑک کی سیدھ کو موڑنے اور قبرستان کو بائی پاس کرنے کے لیے زمین کے حصول کے لیے جائیں گے،" سی ڈی اے کے ایک افسر نے کہا، اس ہفتے حتمی فیصلہ کیا جائے گا۔
تفصیلات کے مطابق سی ڈی اے کے ترجمان سید آصف رضا نے کہا کہ آپشنز زیر غور ہیں اور جلد ہی اتھارٹی حتمی فیصلے کا اعلان کرے گی۔
